The Birkin is, of course, a classic handbag sold by the Hermes accessories company and named after the singer Jane Birkin (for those unfamiliar with the story, it is outlined here).
This notebook celebrates the most humble leather Birkin which, under most circumstances and by most measures, is a good example of sagacious extravagance. The quality of leather, vibrancy of colour, elegance of design, precision of hardware, attention to functionality and instant recognisability are some of the features that set it apart.
The painting of the bag is captioned with the von Donia truism, seemingly obvious but obviously often forgotten, that “Not all extravagances are created equal.”
The fuchsia cover recalls hot tropical blooms while the blue of the near-symmetrical Birkin contributes a cooling, restful influence.
